Matthew 26:62-68 & 27:11-14: Jesus Held His Peace

Matthew 26:62-68 & 27:11-14: Jesus Held His Peace

We have all been falsely accused of something we have not done. Be it something small such as not eating your veggies when you were a child, to more serious offenses such as lying or stealing.  I am pretty sure we all spoke up for ourselves.

Yet in Matthew, chapters 26 and 27, when Jesus stood before those accusing Him, He does not say a word.

Never has anyone been more falsely accused.   Jesus IS the King of King and Lord or Lords, a part of the Creator Himself, the Almighty, and yet, He was silent.  He could have willed his abusers pain and called on angel armies for vengeance, but Jesus held His peace.

Jesus does speak up in Matthew 26:64 & 27:11, but not for His own sake. He knew he had to answer as such so He would be accused of blasphemy and thus fulfill His purpose of dying for our sins.

We have been accused of much less, but we fight back harder and sometimes even with cruelty.  Oh, to be like Jesus and be silent because just knowing the Truth and knowing God has a greater purpose is enough!

(Matthew 26:62-68) And the high priest arose, and said unto Him, "Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?"

But Jesus held His peace.

And the high priest answered and said unto Him, "I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God."

Jesus saith unto him, "Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven."

Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, "He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. What think ye?"

They answered and said, "He is guilty of death."

Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, Saying, "Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?"

(Matthew 27:11-14) And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, "Art thou the King of the Jews?"

And Jesus said unto him, "Thou sayest."

And when He was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then said Pilate unto Him, "Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?" And He answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.
