Hebrews 11:24-26: Sin for a Season
Hebrews 11:23-29 gives us a brief account of Moses. I want to focus on verses 24-25. I love this passage that says that Moses chose "to suffer affliction with the people of God," rather "than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season." Moses realized that "Christ's... riches" were greater "than the treasures in Egypt."
I pray I always have the heart to choose the path Jesus Christ has set before me. Even if it is different than the ones I have chosen for myself. I pray I will also always have the courage to say no to the temptations of the world's paths they offer full of ungodly pleasures and riches obtained by immoral means. May I never choose to sin for a season. The world offers only temporary pleasures full of danger, pain, fear, loneliness, and consequences full of misery. As long as you stay on the straight and narrow ways, Jesus offers safe and happy paths full of love, peace, and joy. (Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.)
Living for God is longer than a season, it is a lifetime of spiritual joys and eternity with Jesus Christ. That is a much better offer!
(Hebrews 11:23-29) By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.
By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
