Joshua 5:11-12: New Food in a New Land
In Joshua 5:11-12, it mentions that the Israelites are no longer eating the old corn of Egypt or the heavenly manna, but were now eating the fruit of their new land in Canaan.
In spite of all their grumblings, God had been faithful by providing the supernatural manna for them for the 40 years they spent in the desert. And God was faithful to keep His promise to bring them to a new land.
I see a strong parallel to when we are brought to a new place in our lives, and in this case, I am referring to a new birth in Jesus Christ, we are to give up the old sinful spiritual food and pursue the new Fruits of the Holy Spirit.
When we walk in Christ and grow in Him, we must yearn to grow past the basics of the Salvation message and seek out the richer spiritual food to help us thrive and grow in Jesus. God's Holy Spirit will provide us with the desire and strength to give up sinful patterns and to grow in Him so we can produce good fruit.
(Joshua 5:9, 11-12) And the Lord said unto Joshua, "This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt..."
And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the Passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day. And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
(Galatians 5:16-25) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
