Romans 8:1-16: Ten Extra Words

Romans 8:1-16: Ten Extra Words

It is so very important to read the Bible on your own and not rely on anyone else's interpretation of scriptures: A year or two ago I listened to a Podcast by a popular singer claiming there is no condemnation when we sin. This is a half-truth given to gain a larger audience. This person, as many have done, failed to read all of Romans 8:1, so let me give it to you, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk NOT after the flesh, BUT after the Spirit." Did you know there were ten extra words to that verse? Those 10 words make a lot of difference.  It is absolutely the key to our walking in Christ - walking not after the flesh, but in the spirit, ONLY then will there be no condemnation. Jesus did not die just to wink at our sins and turn a blind eye to rebellion against His holy Words.

(By the way, when searching for an image to add to this blog, at least 75% of the images for Romans 8:1 also left off the ten extra words!)

Also remember that 1 John 1:9 says. "IF we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Confessing, repenting, and not repeating our sins, that is how we find complete joy in the Lord, not by burying our heads in the sand and pretending we are not responsible for our actions by saying God does not condemn us for our sins. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins for a reason (And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: John 16:8), not that we live in complacency and apathy of our actions, but so we can change our sinful ways to better serve Jesus and make Him Lord of our life! Remember Romans 6:1-2, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?"

When I say not to take anyone at their word that the Bible says what they say it does, I absolutely mean myself!  Please, read it on your own! 2 Timothy 2:5 means that we are to do our own studying so we can learn to understand right from wrong, not let someone else tell us their version of right and wrong and then follow only their example: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Let me just leave you with more from Romans 8, and may you prayerfully consider all you read:

(Romans 8:1-16) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. T

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
