Does God still speak to people today? Written by my Husband, Mel
Does God still speak to people today? Many churches teach that God only speaks through the Bible and not personally to anyone. However, God's Word says otherwise. According to the Bible God has given spiritual gifts to his church for the equipping of the saints (1 Cor 12:4-12).
In Acts 2:16-20, Peter quotes the prophet Joel. He states that in the last days God will pour out his spirit upon all flesh, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men will dream dreams, and your sons and daughters shall prophesy.
There is not one verse in the entire Bible that states this will cease. The gifts of the Spirit will continue until the Lord returns.
Speaking of the Lord's return, when that which is perfect has come then they will cease. Many churches misuse scripture to justify their position.
Many people will not allow God to speak to them because they don't have the faith to believe for it. Their churches have taught them that God only speaks through his Word and have stifled God's Spirit. Don't confine God to your spiritual box. Search out Scripture and use discernment. All experiences must line up with the Word of God or they should be rejected. God speaks to me in dreams, visions, and words. He can speak to you as well, if you believe for it.
Acts 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
1 Cor 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
